Bike Rivals: meet the bikes, part 1

Bike Rivals is out now on iOS and Android and promises to deliver an explosion of insane motocross action directly to your eyeballs. As you may suspect in a game with bike in the name, your vehicle of choice will have a large effect in your ongoing success, and with 12 to choose from at launch, you’ve got a tough decision to make. Each bike has four stats, each graded out of 10, which will obviously affect your performance. Starting off with the Classic bike, each other ride can be unlocked by completing tasks within the game or purchased directly – it’s up to you! Here we detail the first six bikes you’ll ride – click here to read part 2!

bike 8

CLASSIC

TOP SPEED: 2
ACCELERATION: 1
HANDLING: 4
NITRO: 1

You first ride is the trusty Classic bike, a standard motocross vehicle that always gets the job done. You can happily play the entire game on the Classic bike, but if you really want to start cracking the top of the leaderboards, you are going need to upgrade to something else eventually. Still, as a starting point, the Classic is a great bike to learn the ropes with.

bike 9

PIZZA GUT

TOP SPEED: 1
ACCELERATION: 1
HANDLING: 2
NITRO: 2

While every other vehicle in the game is an upgrade of the Classic, let’s be honest: the Pizza Gut is a bit of a joke. It’s a moped, for goodness sake’s, and has the rubbish stats to prove it.  What the Pizza Gut lacks in quality however, it makes up for in comedy potential, with pizzas spilling out of the back whenever the bike is turned upside down. Still, this probably isn’t the best choice for those difficult courses.

PINKY

PINKY

TOP SPEED: 3
ACCELERATION: 2
HANDLING: 4
NITRO: 1

A slight upgrade from the Classic bike, the Pinky features similar handling but a small increase in both top speed and acceleration. We aren’t sure why it’s called the Pinky to be honest: a tribute to the diminutive co-star of seminal 90’s cartoon Pinky And The Brain? Almost definitely not, but that’s what we like to think.

BLINK

BLINK

TOP SPEED: 3
ACCELERATION: 2
HANDLING: 5
NITRO: 2

The Blink has the highest handling of all the early bikes you’ll unlock, so you may well come to rely on it to navigate some of the trickier tracks that require precise movements. Several other early bikes have higher speed and acceleration, but the tight handling of the Blink makes it a valuable throwback if a particular course’s twists and turns are proving taxing.

breezer

BREEZER

TOP SPEED: 3
ACCELERATION: 4
HANDLING: 4
NITRO: 3

The Breezer is a well balanced bike that will serve as a good upgrade to those who become accustomed to the similar feeling of the Classic bike. It also has a cool name that helps us relax. Why get stressed about the fact you just faceplanted into a spinning blade? Everything is breezy!

ninja

NINJA

TOP SPEED: 2
ACCELERATION: 4
HANDLING: 4
NITRO: 5

Ninjas are cool, and as such so is this bike. Unfortunately there is no Pirate bike for it to face off against, so that eternal question will have to remain unresolved for now. Still, if nitro is your thing, you can’t go wrong with the Ninja bike. Using the extra burst of speed that nitro allows is often the key to getting a record-breaking high score, but be careful: going too fast can often lead to plowing directly into whatever obstacle lies ahead.
