Agar.io Community Update: the new patch

A few days ago we released an update with some big changes to the web version of Agar.io. As you probably know, we’ve been working hard to remove bots from the game, and this new patch is our biggest step forward yet. Here’s what’s been changed:

  • New anti-bot measures have been implemented. We’ve done this by making some big, drastic changes to the way the game works behind the scenes, but the end result is lovely, bot-free gameplay for everyone. This new code also runs faster in every way than before, leading to smoother gameplay. Thank you all for your patience while we worked on this.
  • We’ve changed the way graphics quality settings work and added a new high-end option, Retina (this only makes a difference on high DPI monitors). We’ve also tweaked the existing settings. Play around with the settings and see which one works best for you, but the end result is more machines than ever should be able to run the game smoothly. UPDATE: We’ve been listening to your feedback! The new low setting has now been renamed “very low” and low is now closer to how it was before the update.
  • We’ve made a few small aesthetic modifications such as font changes and changing the size of a few things. We’re still tweaking this to get it just right.
  • As a result of these game changes, some current extensions will no longer work. This was an unavoidable side-effect of the anti-bot measures.

With bots gone, Agar.io should be a fairer and smoother experience for everyone. Thanks for sticking with the game and being a fan, and we hope you continue to enjoy it going forward. We’ve got some great stuff coming soon, including a brand new mode I know you’ll all enjoy. Until next time!

  1. Your changes are not very good. Ball with a split scatter in different directions. Lag remained. Many stopped playing agar, because due to your updates do not work for a party comfortable expansion mode. Lack minimap and zoom reduces all efforts to achieve experience in the technique of the game, in your new agar is a question more luck. Why can not we do for the party mode zoom and minimap?

    • I swear this guy is 101% right the new update really sucks and agarbot.ovh even gave up so im guessing we wont be getting bots back for a while …. a very long time.
Miniclip are doing this in stages, First patch: Test patch,Second patch: Bot Ban The one were on now, Third patch: When we think we have won back bots, They will put in the Captcha, Bots are done then

      • I agree. My friend and I love playing agar.io and teaming up, but in like 10 minutes, whenever we get really big, we disconnect! The lobbies are laggier than ever, they don’t last long enough, and WE WANT BOTS BACK! I honestly wish bots would come back. I don’t care if I even have like 5! The only reason I use bots is for teaming, not for mass. It’s SO hard to find a good teammate on Agar.io that you don’t know. #BringBotsBack

    • I really liked the old agar.io because everyone had a good time and in PARTY MODE it was way more fun with bots. I know we hated bots before and everyone was like “#BANBOTS” but now people are starting to miss bots and I hope you (MINICLIP) would bring the bots and the old agar.io back. Thank you for your time and FIX AGAR.IO 🙂

    • Bots don’t even make lag the servers are laggy there self people still want bots there was a while server in agar with #savebot so most agar player want bots

  2. What about private servers ? Well its still possible to connect through our own client but it also mean less players and less fun for everyone.
    BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY
You did put some ads on agar.io right ? There are probably a solid 20% of all agar.io players that was no longer playing on official servers anymore, but still on private servers through agar.io before the update came out. Now you lost thoses 20% ads revenues because theses players don’t play agar.io anymore. LIKE YOU COULD PUT AN EXCEPTION IN THE CODE to use OLD PROTOCOLS WHEN THE GET PARAMTER ?ip IS SET, RIGHT ? That wont change ANYTHING the official servers regarding the bots and extensions uses. Its not even hard to implement.

    PLEASE 🙁

  3. You say that it is unfair bots? When clans play on a server 8-10 players it is fair? Introducing changes Antibot you have taken into account opinion of minorities. In many games there are improvements that can be bought for money.

    • I tried an Agar.io extension for the chrome browser to see how the bots even work, which didn’t actually work for me atfer all and now I’m banned from the game? Really? Users who spend money have advantages, including mass and xp boosts that are unfair to other players who don’t have the money to spend, so the “unfair” argument is pure hypocrisy. I’ve watched hours and hours of the video ads, used tapjoy and spent lots of time and now that’s all been a waste of time thanks to the new update, I guess. Seems like it’s all about the private servers now unless someone from Miniclip actually reads this and is willing to help and remove the ban on my account.

  4. Since the new update, agar.io is now SUPER laggy. That’s why now i don’t play agar.io even though it was my favourite game since last year. I have been playing it for HOURS daily and earning experience. Now since the update, it literally won’t let me play, and when it does, its SUPER laggy. Please fix this Miniclip.

  5. Add back the dang bots the game is so screwed up now the top people are so desperate for mass they split on everyone !! atleast with bots you had a chance and im not some noob ive played agario for over a year and im lvl84 and now im considering quiting.

  6. I think game developers lie to us about this update, especialy the anti-bot part. They dont care about players – most of players are dissapointed about not working extentions and bots, but game developers are not rolling back this update. Check google for dissapointed twitter tweets, facebook posts…
The main thing about bots is, that bots are like real players. So, every new bot means
a need for bigger server with more computing power. I think game developers do not want to invest more money into servers infrastructure. So just banned the bots. They dont care about you and me.
    Thats just my 2 cents…

  7. Rea di ng t h is commentisjustwhatpla yin g Agari o is like now.
The la ag ,whi chwasalwaysbadhasnowonly bec ome wor se.

Seriously, I LOVE this game but it’s becoming unplayable. I also notice the number of people on the servers is dwindling.

You need to fix this fast or your fantastic little game is going to die.

  8. Pls do something with the private server because we all love private servers. Also if u guys bring back private server can u make it bot-able?(Server Admins Only)

  9. La actualizacion de agar.io hizo que perdieran jugadores haora unos quieren que regresen bots en agar.io pero no en execividad ya que causaban demasiado lag pero cada vez habian mas jugadores en los servidores

  10. I honestly wish bots would come back. I don’t care if I even have like 5! The only reason I use bots is for teaming, not for mass. It’s SO hard to find a good teammate on Agar.io that you don’t know. #BringBotsBack

  11. you rascal…Agar.io is not working for me from 17th/6/2016. what kind of update are your doing.
people are struggling here very lot.
you stupid developer try to fix the issue soon.

  12. The little guys don’t stand a chance. The big guys team together in 3 and 4 and 5 and wipe out everything. You need a way for those less experienced to get back in the game. Bots were great fund, as littlie could mass much quicker too. There’s never enough food and the bigs smash you by eating all the green and red cells. Give the little guys some defence back – maybe a way to split the bigs when they are in mass of 16, or a shield force for protection. I have a love hate relationship with this game. Maybe you could team different levels of player together on different servers. Lot’s of lag still, connection issues, drops and we’re on fibre. Getting frustrated. Game is totally down right now – but maybe I got logged off for swearing at the massive teams of bigs smashing me every time. Logged in with Facebook but back to Level 1 as a guest right now. Why? My 2 minutes of downtime is not much fun anymore. 🙁

  13. Really miniclip people like bots u messed up agario tbh now these sucky sights are here and are over priced please bring back ovh

  14. IVE SPENT OVER 2000 HRS ON THIS GAME THXS FOR GETTING RIDE OF BOTS OTHERS ARE JUST MAD BECAUSE THEY DONT WORK ANY MORE #CHEATERS SUCK<—– AND WHY PARTY ON AGAR.IO EVERY ONE JUST TEAM<– IS BORING TRICK SPLIT OVER AND OVER EVERY 1 DOES IT 0 SKILL 0 PERSONALITY FREE FOR ALL IS BETTER ! 15. THIS UPDATE SUCKS AND MINICLIP SHOULD MOVE BUTT FOR REPAIRING THIS GAME!

  16. Hi Miniclip! First of all, I’m really addicted to this game. But since the update lunched (the one that you change some of the fonts and add retina graphics something like that) I’m not enjoying the game on how I enjoyed it before. I’m from the Philippines, and before the update I was able to play smoothly on any regions servers. But when the update came out, and try to play in Europe server, my game is so laggy and I really can’t play well. So I tried playing to the servers near my location (East Asia, China, Oceania) I’m not lagging there, but the players are insane. The leader board is full of players with the same clan, which means if you get some mass they will savage you ’cause they like owning the map. Until now, I’m not really enjoying the game. PLEASE, MAKE AGAR.IO HOW IT WAS BEFORE! WE DON’T NEED HIGH DEFINITION GAMEPLAY, ALL WE WANT IS SMOOTH, AND LAG-FREE GAME! PLEASE REPLY AS WELL 😀
