Agar.io Community Update: the new patch

A few days ago we released an update with some big changes to the web version of Agar.io. As you probably know, we’ve been working hard to remove bots from the game, and this new patch is our biggest step forward yet. Here’s what’s been changed:

  • New anti-bot measures have been implemented. We’ve done this by making some big, drastic changes to the way the game works behind the scenes, but the end result is lovely, bot-free gameplay for everyone. This new code also runs faster in every way than before, leading to smoother gameplay. Thank you all for your patience while we worked on this.
  • We’ve changed the way graphics quality settings work and added a new high-end option, Retina (this only makes a difference on high DPI monitors). We’ve also tweaked the existing settings. Play around with the settings and see which one works best for you, but the end result is more machines than ever should be able to run the game smoothly. UPDATE: We’ve been listening to your feedback! The new low setting has now been renamed “very low” and low is now closer to how it was before the update.
  • We’ve made a few small aesthetic modifications such as font changes and changing the size of a few things. We’re still tweaking this to get it just right.
  • As a result of these game changes, some current extensions will no longer work. This was an unavoidable side-effect of the anti-bot measures.

With bots gone, Agar.io should be a fairer and smoother experience for everyone. Thanks for sticking with the game and being a fan, and we hope you continue to enjoy it going forward. We’ve got some great stuff coming soon, including a brand new mode I know you’ll all enjoy. Until next time!
